German Shorthaired Pointer catch on to things very quickly as they love to learn and love attention and to explore. They are not a big dog but are very strong. The average weight for a male is 55-65 and the average weight of a female is 45-55, the average height of a male is 23- 25 inches and the female is 21-23 inches. The size makes it easy for kids to handle the adult dog and it makes it easy to take the adult dog along with you in the car or fit in at home. The German Shorthaired Pointer is strong enough to work well in the field with hunting but are not too large to be cumbersome to a family for a house dog. To us they are the perfect family dog! german shorthaired puppies quality pups

We socialize with the pups on a daily basis and give them love and attention from the day they are born. When they are born, they are born white with liver or black or solid liver, and as they get older their color changes so we try to take pictures every couple weeks so you can follow the changes. The freckles and roan color come out at about 2 weeks of age and gets more distinct as they grow. Their eyes open between 2 and 3 weeks and at first will appear a little dull and cloudy but will brighten up!
We band the tails and remove the dew claws when the pups are 3 days old to minimize stress and ensure that they heal properly (without scar). The pups are wormed every two weeks so if you get yours at eight weeks old it will be wormed 3 times. We recommend continuing this routine until they are 12 weeks old. We will vaccinate your puppy with NeoPar at 5 weeks and NeoVac/NeoPar vaccine when puppy is 7 weeks old. You should give your puppy a vaccine when it is 9-10-weeks old and at 6 months and annually or as your vet advises.
We live on a small farm by Rock Valley, Iowa and started out with a few cows, chickens, pigs, goats, ducks, geese, rabbits,,horses and of course dogs! We have fours sons growing up and they were all avid outdoor kids that liked animals so we had a lot of variety over the years. They were also involved in local 4-H club and showed in the county, district and state fair. |
We tried different breeds of dogs and a friend gave us a German Shorthaired Pointer and compared to our labs at the time it looked to be a skinny, skrawny dog but we were open to try a new breed. We were a little offended when he stated that once we had a GSP we would replace our labs with more! A long story shortened is exactly what happened! The kids loved the dog(our first Lucy) and Lucy fit in with our family so well that we concentrated on only German Shorthaired Pointers from that day onward.
Our boys each had their own dog and would get part of the money of a litter raised each year providing it was not born during hunting season-this was not allowed as they wanted to take their dog hunting! The money paid for dog food and expenses throughout the year and it worked out well for our family.
Our boys are all grown but we have kept the dogs around and added a few! We strive to breed dogs that fit in with a family and that will have enough natural instinct to be great hunters!
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
